Spiritual conceptions and ritualsThe Romans brought their culture into Gaul and soon the Gaulish recognised the Roman counterparts of their Gods.On a number of information boards at the reception area of Malagne the Gaulish Gods are described (Tutatis, Taranis, Epona, ....) as well as the Roman Gods (Jupiter, Mercurius, Saturnus) and the forces that were attributed to these Gods. Some Gallic tribes buried their deceased. Under the influence of the Romans the cremating of the deceased is implemented. Their ashes is kept in an urn which is usually put in a square hole in the ground, covered with roof tiles and a headstone or slate. Later on, at the time of the Christ, or in any case as of the end of the IInd century the method of burying the dead regains. A tomb has been found at Malagne. At the left wing of the villa, a detached space was found that most probably served as a room of reflection. One could enter the space by a gateway that was held by four columns, but by lack of further traces or details we do not exactly know its purpose. |
